Information display blinking or blank

Why is my display information either not showing or blinking? Why is it no longer steady? This is on Caller ID, Answering Machine Display, Handset Display, etc. |

The battery may no longer be functioning at full capacity. The phone is programmed to eliminate certain functions to save battery power. If you have more than one handset try swapping the batteries.
