Every phone will require a signal from the telephone company in order for the voice mail indicator feature to work. Depending upon the phone's design it may require a specific type of signal . These signals are what prompts the voicemail indicator light to begin or end flashing. If your voicemail indicator light is not functioning properly you will want to do the following.
1. Contact the telephone company and confirm which type of signal is being sent to your phone.
2. Look in the back of your owner's manual for the specification on which type of signal is needed to be used with your phone. Make sure the telephone company is sending the proper signal.
3. Make sure that your telephone cord goes directly in to the wall jack and not through a secondary object/device.
4. If all of the above is verified to be in proper order then you can try to reset your voicemail indicator light. This is done by removing the handset from the base. Press and hold the find hs key for 5 seconds. If this doesn't fix your problem you will want to contact the telephone company to request they reset your voicemail in their system.
SEE BELOW FOR THE TWO TYPES OF SIGNALS THAT COULD BE THE ONE YOU NEED.
Studder Tone- is when the phone is picked up, you hear a broken dial tone is for 4-5 seconds indicating new messages. This is known as an audible tone.
Frequency-Shift Keying (FSK) is a form of frequency modulation in which the modulating signal shifts the output frequency between predetermined values. Usually, the instantaneous frequency is shifted between two discrete values known as the "mark" frequency and the "space" frequency. This is known as a silent tone.
